Introduction

Founder and Guide Jason S. Frishman, PsyD

I’ve spent the last two decades helping men find their footing as fathers, partners, and leaders — not by preaching to them, but by sitting in conversation, sharing real stories, and doing the work alongside them. I’m a dad to two boys myself, so everything I teach comes straight out of lived experience: the pressure, the tenderness, the moments I’ve missed, and the ones I’ve fought hard to show up for. My background is rooted in Adventure Therapy and Narrative Therapy, with psychology master’s and doctorate degrees focused on how groups transform people from the inside out. I’ve designed and led men’s groups, retreats, and fatherhood programs for years, always with the same goal: to help men reclaim presence, purpose, and connection in the parts of life that matter most. JourneyMen isn’t theory for me — it’s the work that shaped me as a father and as a man. The Mug Club is the space I wish I’d had earlier: a steady hearth, a crew of men who give a damn, and a place where you can lay down the weight, tell the truth, and rebuild the parts of yourself that you anyour family needs most.

"I'm not the only one"

by Jay

I've done a lot of coaching programs for my business and for personal development, but this is the first program I've done that was specific to being a father and parenting. Doing the work with a group of like-minded men was so helpful and reassuring that "I'm not the only one" that finds being a dad challenging. Now I have tools that I can use at the moment with my son that help me calm down, become present, and parent from a place of connection and guidance, rather than from frustration and overwhelm. Jason is a brilliant, funny, and caring guide that I wish all men would use to make their parenting experience more enjoyable, more loving and more connected.

‘What is measured, changes.’

Two weeks. Fourteen days. This is the first leg of your Journey. Sort of. You’ve been preparing for this for some time now, right? You are a good father. You are a good guy. And now it’s time to move deeper into the kind of father and man that you’ve envisioned for yourself. And that begins with a succession of small, important changes. No epic, legendary, mountain-moving heroics are needed here. Do what needs to be done.

"This program works!"

by Jesse

I found the journey to be inspiring, challenging, and in the end insightful. To that end - your program works! I cannot tell you enough how many friends I shared my journey with and felt open enough in my own introspection to open my feelings and heart to others. I tend to be a fairly open person but this challenge you placed on me was interesting. It forced a look at who I am as an individual, spouse, and father, and eventually, change has come forth. I still ask my kids about daily highlights and lowlights (and chime in with my own), and I feel that the communication link is more open within the family.

"I wasn't focusing enough on myself."

by Chapin

As a father in the midst of raising a family and rising to the challenge of a demanding job, I wasn't focusing enough on myself, my well-being, and my own growth. Joining the Journeymen was a time dedicated for me. It's social, it's introspective, and it kicked my butt to shift some well-worn patterns so that I could be a better person, parent, and partner. I'm probably one of those reluctant guys that wouldn't call a therapist until my whole life fell apart. Journeymen seemed more approachable. It was an opportunity to connect with other men, learn from their similar challenges, and support one another to go deep and develop skills to more skillfully paddle through the rapids of life.

"I’ve identified my blocks and obstacles.

by Tom

This group helped me to use the creativity of a group of committed dads to not feel alone, to feel more diversity of thought on how to tackle issues, and to ‘put my Imp in its place, even though it doesn’t want to stay there!” I’ve identified my blocks and obstacles, so I can do a better job of controlling and managing them!
